McLaren Has GTD Class Podium Finish at Daytona

The McLaren Artura GT4 race cars had their competitive debut at this year’s IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge race at Daytona, and the 720S GT3 had a podium finish in the GTD class during the iconic 24 Hour race. The new Artura race car managed to secure a top 10 qualifying position, and finished sixth in the four-hour GT4 race.

McLaren had two Artura GT4 cars in the race, which had only been delivered to the two teams competing late last year. Built by McLaren Motorsport, these two vehicles were raced by Motorsports In Action and Crucial Motorsports after an extensive test and development program. Despite starting in 30th place, the Crucial Motorsports Artura GT4 managed to take back positions in the second half of the race, eventually finishing in a competitive sixth place.

“This was a fantastic weekend that began with a very strong result for the Artura GT4 in the IMSA Michelin Pilot challenge at Daytona this weekend. The nature of GT4 regulations and competitiveness of the field means that we were realistic with our expectations, and this is great reward for the development team’s hard work over the last 18 months in building a great race car for our customers. This result should also be attributed to the superb efforts of both Crucial Motorsports and Motorsports In Action; both teams have quickly adapted to the new car, one of our key aims for the Artura GT4 programme and this means that have been able to apply their focus towards performance,” said Ian Morgan, Director of Motorsport for McLaren Automotive.

The Inception Motorsport 720S GT3 car got the GTD class podium of the 24 Hour race at Daytona after qualifying in sixth place for the class. Drivers Brenden Iribe, Fabien Schandorff, Oliver Millroy, and Marvin Kirchhofer took the 720S GT3 to the podium finish after 729 laps, and just 17 seconds behind the winning vehicle.
