The new McLaren 750S Spider made its North American dynamic debut and joined the esteemed “200 mph club” at the Sun Valley Tour de Force event on Saturday, July 22nd, with former McLaren Formula 1 driver Stefan Johansson behind the wheel of the brand’s latest supercar.
As part of McLaren’s 60th anniversary celebrations, the new 750S joined its predecessors, the renowned 720S and track-focused 765LT, in attempting to reach the 200mph mark on a 3.2-mile stretch of closed state highway in the picturesque Sun Valley, Idaho.
Johansson was among many McLaren customers who achieved VMAX velocities exceeding 200mph at this exceptional car event, which served as a fundraiser to support non-profit charities in the local Sun Valley area.
The McLaren 750S sets a new standard for supercar performance and driver exhilaration. As the lightest and most powerful series-production McLaren, the new V8-engined, 740bhp McLaren 750S – available in Coupe and Spider versions – is unapologetically designed for purists seeking an unparalleled driving experience. With astounding performance figures, it can sprint from 0 to 60mph in just 2.7 seconds and reach 124mph in 7.2 seconds, confirming its independently verified top speed of over 200mph during Saturday’s run.
While first customer deliveries are scheduled later this year, the US allocation of cars is already sold out, with orders extending well into 2024.
Exiting the 750S following its debut run in the US, former Formula 1 driver Stefan Johansson, who secured five podium positions with McLaren during the 1987 season, expressed high praise for McLaren’s latest supercar:
